I photograph what stays behind after the moment has passed. The air left in a street. The trace of someone who has just walked out of the frame.
Heat, humidity, smell, sound. I press the shutter for what I take in with all my senses, not only for what is in front of my eyes.
I am not looking for the picturesque. What I want is a photograph with time and presence behind it, rather than in front of it.
I also run a company in Kitami, Hokkaido. Its work is to watch over the health of the earth.
その場が過ぎたあとに残るものを撮っています。街に流れている空気や、たったいま誰かが立ち去ったあとの気配のようなもの。
熱、湿度、ニオイ、音。目に映るものだけでなく、五感で感じ取ったものに対してシャッターを押しています。
絵になる風景を探しているわけではありません。写真の手前ではなく、向こう側に時間と気配があること。そういう写真を撮りたいと思っています。
